It was just a little over six years ago that I decided to do a thorough review and
study of all of the teachings, doctrines, traditions, opinions, and ideas that became
the foundation of the corporate Churches of God. After some time of investigation
and study, I began to see one principal thread winding through this end-time era of
God’s church.
As a collective group – whether it be the leadership or the membership, I’ve
observed over the years many instances where the people did not, and still do not,
believe without reservation, the inspired recorded words of God the Father, His
Son, Jesus Christ, the apostles and prophets.
From my experience and observation, the leadership and members of these
various Church of God organizations are continuing to accept doctrines and
scriptural understanding that have numerous instances and varying degrees of
compromise. The things that are incomplete or inaccurate leave God’s people with
only partial understanding and truth. What must be established in a clear and
complete way is the full, untampered truth of God. All the truth He intends for
people to understand is in the holy writings and does not require “inspired men”
attempting to clarify and give understanding according to their purpose, opinions
and ideas—no matter how sincere or otherwise they may be. According to one’s
individual sincerity and humility, God is willing and desirous to establish His truth
within each of us.
God chose Herbert Armstrong for specific reasons. Others were also available, but
he was the one selected. I believe that from the beginning he was not quite able to
grasp the full intent of many basic scriptures. The men that worked with Mr.
Armstrong during the fifties and sixties acquiesced and agreed to his reasoning,
and thus the whole foundation of the church organization was structured upon
many false assumptions. One result was that there were many struggles with
church governance and authority.
They also stumbled into pride – believing and assuming without reservation, that
God had chosen them for a work, and would therefore bless all that they put forth
for the ministry and Gospel of the Kingdom, regardless of their mistakes and
human flaws and reasonings. A lack of humility and reasonable accountability, that
continues in the church today, is one reason the struggle with truth goes on.
As matters presently stand, God’s church is filled with people who have made
sincere professions of faith, who have repented of their sins, been baptized and
given God’s Spirit, but who have only a marginal understanding of the wonderful
depth of relationship they can have with the Father and Son. Very few have a
bride/groom relationship with Jesus Christ. This is a relationship of qualified faith,
trust and dependence.
I have not had any visions, dreams, or discussions with anyone; neither do I have
any new kind of doctrine or truth, teaching or prophecy, or any personal
revelation. My focus is always only on the applied truth of the word of God, the life
and heart and teachings of Jesus Christ, and the ministry of the apostles and
prophets. Everything I present in my writings, I try to do with a foundation laid on
the inspired word of God. I feel a strong sense of obligation to share my
experiences and observations, and to lend understanding and clarification to other
sojourners, as God provides opportunity.
Perhaps I need to make another personal point here. I wish to make it clear that, 1)
I have absolutely no intention of beginning any kind of church organization; 2) I am
not looking for a following or to have, in some way, authority over others; and 3) I
am not scheming to get anyone’s money.
There are several important reasons for prophecy. For sincere and striving
brothers and sisters in Christ, there is a fundamental over-riding point. If we do not
understand and believe the inspired words of Jesus, the apostles and prophets,
then we have no assurance of what the future will bring and the part we may play
in it. When the lies and deceptions come, most will fall, even some of the very elect
will be deceived because they did not believe.
It is written that the lies and deceptions will appear first. In this connection and
along with these lies, will come the fullness of many end-time prophecies. Our
calling and commission requires us as true Christian believers to demonstrate trust
and faith in God and His word before these things take place, When evil is running
rampant, God’s people will have to hold their course. It is these men and women
who know what Jesus said, and believe it will happen as so stated.
This will require one to have a relationship with God and Jesus that goes well
beyond the mere acquaintance many of us at this time now have. Those who are
prepared for the prophesied events outlined by the Messiah, detailed by the
apostles and prophets, will know what to do. This is the challenge Jesus gives to
each of us; believe, obey, survive and reap the promises!
These study papers will bring forth much interesting and important information.
Some things you may already know. However, much to one degree or another, will
be new. Two suggestions you may find helpful: 1) Consider the Bereans. 2) Ask
yourself—is there harmony in the development and explanation of the scriptures. I
will do my best to make sure the writing is done in an orderly and understandable
plain English manner.
These things are for mature, strong and determined men and women who are
willing to listen and strive to acquire knowledge that leads to understanding and
truth. It is for those individuals who will take the time to study and prove these
matters one way or another. This information is for those who love truth, especially
the truth of God and desire to grow in the knowledge of all His truth. People who
will fight and struggle, whatever the cost, so that they may stand before God and
His Son as perfected and pleasing on that promised and glorious day!
